Cable Tie Source Manufacturer | Set as Homepage | Add to FavoritesCurrently, plastic waterproof junction boxes are mainly made of ABS and polycarbonate engineering plastics. The following is a brief introduction to the properties of these two resins:
ABS resin is an amorphous polymer copolymerized from three monomers: acrylonitrile (23%-41%), butadiene (10-30%), and styrene (29%-60%), abbreviated as ABS. Its properties are as follows:
(1). ABS is non-toxic and odorless, appearing as ivory translucent or transparent particles or powder. Density is 1.08-1.18/cm3, shrinkage rate is 0.4%-0.9%, moisture absorption is less than 1%, melting temperature is 217-237°C, and thermal decomposition temperature is greater than 250°C.
(2). ABS is hard and tough, with good rigidity, low-temperature impact resistance, creep resistance, dimensional stability, and wear resistance; it has a very small coefficient of linear expansion, small molding shrinkage, and excellent surface gloss.
(3). ABS has good electrical insulation properties and is almost unaffected by temperature, humidity, and frequency, making it suitable for use in most environments.
(4). The heat deflection temperature of ABS is 93-118°C, which can be increased by about 10°C after annealing treatment. It can be used in the temperature range of -40°C to 100°C, and still exhibits a certain degree of toughness at -40°C.
(5). ABS is flammable, with a yellow flame, black smoke, and a special odor, but does not drip.
(6). ABS is not affected by water, inorganic salts, alkalis, and many acids, but dissolves in ketones, aldehydes, and chlorinated hydrocarbons. It undergoes stress cracking when attacked by glacial acetic acid, vegetable oil, etc.; ABS has poor weather resistance and is prone to degradation under UV light; after half a year outdoors, the impact strength will decrease significantly.
(7). ABS has strong adsorption properties, making it an excellent material for plastic electroplating. It has good compatibility with polar resins and can modify the properties of PVC.
Polycarbonate refers to a class of linear polymers in which carbonate groups are alternately arranged in the macromolecular chain, with excellent properties.
(1) PC is a transparent or white, hard and tough thermoplastic resin with good flame retardancy. When burning, the flame is yellow, melts and bubbles, emits a fruity odor, and self-extinguishes when removed from the flame.
(2) PC is a highly transparent resin with a light transmittance of 85%-90% and a refractive index of 1.589, close to PMMA (acrylic glass), making it suitable for lens materials.
(3) PC has rigid and tough mechanical properties. Its impact resistance is very excellent among thermoplastic materials, more than 3 times higher than PA and POM, approaching the level of PF and UP fiberglass; it has good tensile strength, flexural strength, and dimensional stability, but poor stress cracking resistance and high notch sensitivity.
(4) PC has excellent thermal properties. Products can be used in the temperature range of -60°C to 125°C; heat deflection temperature is around 130-140°C, embrittlement temperature is around -100°C, and melting point is around 220-230°C; it has good electrical insulation properties; volume resistance is 5×1016Ω.cm, worse than PE, PS, and PTFE; thermal conductivity and coefficient of linear expansion are relatively small.
(5) PC has stable chemical resistance. At room temperature, it is resistant to dilute acids, water, oils, aliphatic hydrocarbons, salts, and oxidizing agents; it is not resistant to hot water above 60°C; PC dissolves in dichloromethane, chlorobenzene, and dioxane.
